Today is Thursday December 31 2009

Just got back from running and I feel great. For at first I ran at speeds 4.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 5.0 but not in any organized many. at about the 25 or 30 minutes I ran at the 5.0 speed (which is a run) for 5 minutes, and the next 5 minutes I walked at the 4.0 speed, jumped down to 3.5 after 3 or 4 minutes and then dropped again to 3.0 for the last 30 seconds, and then back to 5.0 for 5 minutes. Using this method I broke 505 calories burnt today.
So far I ate:
Meal 1: egg sandwich
Meal 2: Ham and cheese sandwich.
Because its New Years Eve, I know I'm gonna drink pretty heavily tonight and I'll probably end up eating pretty shitty tonight, so I will use tonight as my 'cheat day' (but until going out I'll still eat healthy).

Today is Tuesday, December 29, 2009

So this is what i ate today:
meal 1: bowl of cheerios, 3 eggs, 2 pieces of toast
meal 2: boneless chicken, rice with mushroom gravy, cream corn
thoughout the day i snacked on a couple of small cheese blocks (about the size of a dime each) a few oreos and 2 mini slim jims (I had to snap into 'em). I just got back from running on the tredmill for an hour (alright so I probably walked more than I ran but it's a start), and after I go grab a movie from the rental place I will have another plate of a half a piece of chicken and some more corn. O.K. so i know I only ate twice so far but at least it was healthy. About the treadmill: the time went by faster today but probably only because i was watching No Country for Old Men and I have never seen it before. Either on the way back from picking up the movie or mabey first thing tommorrow morining I'll pick up a scale to wiegh myself and keep track of how mush weight I'll (hopefully) lose.
p.s. I need to remember to pick up some Dr. Sholes too.

So far So good.

So its 2:18 am, I got to the ‘gym’ at my girlfriend’s apartments around 12:30 and by 12:45 I remembered why even when I was lifting weights I always skipped cardio. It’s boring. But luckily there’s a T.V. so after an episode and a half of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and about two episodes of Pawn Stars I was done. Because I really can’t afford to get a nice pair of running shoes which run at least 100 bucks, I ran in my work shoes, which because I work in a restaurant my feet were pretty pissed about it but I’ve promised them that I will pick up some Dr. Sholes pads In a few days and I’m feeling pretty good about the run after I hop off the treadmill so it’s a good day still. Hop in the shower and now here I am, eating a chicken caesar wrap left over from my girlfriend’s dinner. Not the best choice in the world but I’m too tired to cook and I need something before I go to bed.
Feeling good about this so far.

It all started with a t-shirt

I never thought I’d be writing a blog. I’ve read a couple of ‘em, some interesting, others funny, I just never thought any of them would be written by me. The whole purpose of this blog is to keep me on track. About two years ago I began to really get into weight lifting. I was in the gym 5-6 days a week for almost a year, and eating 6-7 small, healthy meals throughout the day. I was a bona fide gym rat. I wasn’t built like a bodybuilder or cut up, but I had a pretty good build going on and felt great. Towards the end of my year long gym membership I went from 5-6 days a week to 2-3, and a few months before my gym membership expired I wasn’t going at all. Shortly after I left the gym my meal plan went out the window, I was eating healthy just not a lot. After that I joined a local Mixed Martial Arts gym and for 3 months I went to a 2-day a week beginners class and loved every minute of it. I stopped going in august because of school and money and for the past five months I haven’t been doing any exercising and my diet has been terrible. I keep telling myself I’ll start to run/weight lift/go back to MMA, but it’s always no time, no money or some other excuse that really boiled down to a lack of real motivation. That all ended a few days ago when my girlfriend and I went to a friend’s house to hang out with them and my brother. Now I had come from work and had to change before going over there, and the shirt I picked out was one that I hadn’t worn in a while. It just so happened that this particular shirt was bought when I was lifting weights and going to the MMA gym, so when I bought the shirt it was fitted on me and I looked pretty good in it. Well when I put the shirt on to go to my buddies house it was a shock to the system. I mean, I knew some of my shirts fit a little different on account of some weight gain and loss of muscle mass, but I wasn’t expecting anything like this. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but to me this one simply said: you gotta be kidding me

So I decided to cut all the BS and get in shape. Sure, because of money I can’t go out and get a weight set or join a gym right away, but running is free and so is the ‘fitness center’ ( ha, nothing but a room with a couple treadmills) at my girlfriend’s apartment complex. So here’s the deal: I always start these things with the best intentions but have some trouble holding my feet to the fire. So since me and my girlfriend are expecting a baby in mid-June, I’ll use that as a deadline. I’ve decided that I will run for 5 hours every week until the end of June, after each session I will write about it, keeping track of my progress and what I eat, and every week I will post a picture to keep me motivated. At the end of June I’ll post a before and after picture and hopefully see some real results.
27 weeks, 135 hours of running, eating healthy and feeling great.
And here we go.
